Creativity with Light

On November 7, we had a presentation from Michelle Essenson, who introduced us to light painting techniques, mostly using very low cost ‘DIY’ tools, although she did go on to show us some more expensive treats. After a bit of history and theory she then gave us a ‘Live’ demo.

Suitably inspired, one or two people have since had a go with very passable results in pretty quick time.

Projected Image League 2023/24 round 1.

This season's first PI competition has started with recently joined members taking the top spots. Graham Adamson took first and second places with "Red Riding Hood" and "Lake Bled" respectively. Third place went to Tony Calthorpe with "Camouflage at the Summer Exhibition".

This week, there were also two 'Highly commended' Images -  "Hamoya Coastline" by Emma Mapletoft and "The Riesenrad, Vienna" by Richard Craddock.

Latest league standings can be found in the page 'Projected Image League'.

Creative flash.

This weeks practical session was 'Creative use of your flash'. After a summary chat from Colin and a quick walkthrough Studio flash setup, we broke out into a few different set ups where people could freely experiment and exchange ideas.

One group started off with harsh, highly directional flash, and migrated through a more traditional setup to multiple flash firing and finally to strobe. Great fun and educational all at once!

Images of the year

This year the "Image of the Year" was again selected by the members using a voting system. This system gives a useful insight to members preferences compared to various judges throughout the year.

Projected Image of the year.

Winner: Colin McInnes' image Fishing Huts in Pellestrina was voted image of the year, well done to our Chairman. Seems fair to also mention that 2nd and 3rd spots were taken by Chris Williams with Bee Landing and Kingfisher in the Cold
